Trump’s eldest son is seeking to sue a government agency that is attempting to force him to release his financial information under a public records request, a court filing shows.
In a motion filed Thursday, Sam Donald Trump Jr. is seeking an injunction that would require the U.S. Office of Government Ethics to compel the release of his tax returns.
The OGE, which regulates government ethics, is in the process of reviewing his request.
The OGE has argued that releasing his tax return would reveal sensitive personal information about the Trump family and could harm the Trump Foundation, which has given money to the Trump Organization.
The foundation has said it would not release Trump’s tax returns because they are confidential.
Sam Donald Trump has denied any wrongdoing and said he plans to fight the lawsuit.
In a statement Thursday, he called OGE requests “absurd.”
“I will not release my tax returns in order to undermine the efforts of the OGE to uncover the truth about the Donald J. Trump Foundation,” he said.
“I am not part of the politicized and dishonest political class, which is the antithesis of our First Amendment freedoms and values.
I am not beholden to the corrupt system to which I have dedicated my entire adult life.
The truth will come out once the truth comes out.
The time for a rigged system to be exposed and our democracy restored is now.”
Sam Donald Donald Trump said he has no plans to comply with the OGS request.
“I believe OGE’s request is baseless, and the OGES’ request for my tax return is baseless,” he wrote in the filing.
“As a lawyer, I will vigorously defend my right to free speech and freedom of the press, and I will continue to do so as long as OGE continues to harass and intimidate me.
The fact is, Sam, the Trump administration’s tax return requests are politically motivated and they are being made in an effort to intimidate me into silence.”
Sam has denied that he and his father are political donors.
He said in a statement last month that he is not interested in political contributions because he believes the government should “follow the law and follow the rules” to help people and not to benefit themselves.
“The Trump administration has made the OGO’s requests and other forms of intimidation a cornerstone of its attacks on the press and other public servants who dare to expose corruption,” Sam Donald Donald said.
