A woman who died at her West Vancouver home in August is the mother of a baby boy.
The baby boy, who was not named, was born at home and is now in a foster care home, police said.
The couple had a four-month-old son and a six-month old daughter, who is now living with their mother, according to police.
Police said the baby was placed in a crib in the couple’s apartment on Aug. 20, when police responded to a call from the mother who said she had been bitten by a dog, according.
The boy’s mother was taken to hospital but later died.
“The baby was in the crib when police arrived,” Const.
Clint Fraser said in a statement.
The two women have been charged with second-degree murder.
“She was very aggressive, very violent towards her baby,” Fraser said.
He said the mother was also the owner of the baby’s mother, and the baby is being cared for by her.
Police have not released any details about the baby.
In October, a baby girl was also bitten by her mother.
I think it’s important to stress that our detectives are investigating this as a homicide, but I would caution that this is not a criminal investigation.”
Fraser said investigators are working with the mother’s husband to determine if the baby had been abused or neglected, and what kind of protective measures were taken.
A child’s safety is always our top priority, he said.
“We want to find out what happened to the baby and if we can help in that way,” he said in October.
